How do you get ready to be a judge?

All States in America have some type of legal training for judges. Some judges take classes about the law.

To get this job, students take classes to learn how to write, do research, and make presentations. Social studies classes teach about research and law. Students who want to be a judge also need strong reading skills.

How many judge jobs are there?

There were 25,501 judges in 2012. Most of them worked in State and local governments.

Judges are people in charge of the trials in the courts and make sure that the trial is pretty fair. They try to resolve differences between lawyers. They sometimes read the law to decide what lawyers can and can't do.
